Cassandra Monique Batie known professionally as Andra Day is an American R&B and soul singer writer and actress. It is said that the Grammy Award, Children's and Family Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award are among her many awards she's earned. In addition, she was nominated for an Academy Award. Andra Day is an imposing musician and artist who isn't just a throwback R&B expert. Her roots in gospel music and blues she performs with grace and finesse translate to the present. Born Cassandra Monique Batie in Edmonds Washington Andra Day grew up in San Diego and its metropolitan zone where she performed in church and enrolled at the School of Creative and Performing Arts. After graduating from the school, she was drawn to modern R&B and pop but was eventually drawn back to the classical jazz and soul singers she listened to as a youngster. Her debut came in the film Halloween in the role of Allyson and was later seen in various television shows, including Orange Is the New Black (Orange Is the New black) Park Avenue (666 Park Avenue (666 Park Avenue) as well as Blue Bloods and Orange Is the new black.
